Dear All Travelers, I just received the final tour itinerary (as attached) from our tour company. Please remember we have the first two dinners at the night markets and to be paid by ourselves. They may not take credit cards. I suggest you to get some NT$ from the ATM machines at the airport while you are waiting there. I don’t think we have time to stop by the bank. The exchange rate at the hotel cashier is definitely not the best. Please let your family to know that our emergency contact in Taiwan is: Emergency Contact: (02) 2563 4621 Raymond Woon The electric outlet in Taiwan is 110V, exactly like the one in US. For Hong Kong travelers, adapter is required. For those who are interested in extending you stay in Taipei, you may stay at the same hotel @ UD$160+ per night. Please make prior arrangement ASAP. We also suggest you to look into the hotels listed in the following webpage. Price range is US$80+ to UD$110 per night. http://zhengshe.net/2010_reunion/hotels_in_taipei.htm See you soon Max ================================================================ Dear Travelers for the Zhengshe Taiwan Tour. This is most likely the last communication before we meet in Hong Kong, or Taiwan. There are new information and some minor modifications in our plan: 1. At today’s currency exchange rate: US$ 1 = NT$ 30.64. For the duration of interest to us, we can just use a number “1 to 30”. 2. There are several ways to get NT$ in Taiwan. The easiest way to do it is by ATM machine. There are ATM machine at the airport lobby and in town. I found the exchange rate is the best through ATM. However, your bank may charge you up to 3% fee. The other way is to exchange US$ in the Banks. Most of the banks don’t take old bills and they will charge you service fees. Changing US$ at the airport and hotel cashier yield the worst rates. You may want to bring along certain amount of US$1, US$5 and US$10 for tips. 3. Last day of our tour is November 14, when you will check out of the hotel. For those who want to extend their stay in Taipei, you can stay in the same hotel at (about US$160 per night). You need to make arrangement with them when we arrive the first day or even earlier so they can reserve rooms for you. There are other hotels in the general area at cheaper price. Please click on the following link for more information. http://zhengshe.net/2010_reunion/hotels_in_taipei.htm 4. On arrival to hotel each day, the hotel porter will bring your luggage from the bus to the lobby. They want to charge NT$50 to bring each piece of luggage to your room. In the morning, if you want them to bring your luggage from you room to the Lobby, you need to let them know ahead of time and they will again charge you NT$50. I suggest we handle our own luggage between lobby and rooms. Have a safe flight. Max ============================================================ Dear All, In about one month and a half, we will meet in Taipei to start our 8 days around the island tour. I also know that many of us will leave home starting from the middle of October. It may be difficult to communicate while we are out somewhere. Therefore, I want to send this e-mail to you so we can get some preliminary preparation done before the hectic time comes. 0 Before we start: Please visit the following web page and see if you need to apply Taiwan Visa. http://zhengshe.net/2010_reunion/taiwan_visa.htm 1 Reception at the airport: The Tour company representatives will hold signs of “培正正社”, and stand in an area visible from the exit point of the immigration and custom. Our 63 passengers will be arriving from 9:55am to 12:10pm. For the early arrivals (on or before 11:40am), John Sun 孫強 will be there with the Tour Guides. Please let John knows that you have arrived and park you luggage near that area. It is your responsibility to watch your luggage until the Tour Company takes over. Check with John and see what time the bus will depart. Don’t go very far unless you let John to know where you are going and when you will be back. 林志光夫婦 should go directly to the Arrival Lobby of Terminal 2 to join the early crowd to board the First Bus. John will notify the passengers about the exact Bus’s departure time. It should be just about 12 noon as we originally planned. About half of the total passengers will take the China Air #602 to arrive Taipei at 12:10pm. Max Cheung 張文昌will be on that flight. We shall board the Second Bus and try to catch up with the First Bus at 石門水庫. Since the second bus will start after 12 noon, you may need to prepare some snacks so you would not go starving. 2 Bus: We are going to use 2 buses similar to those shown in the attached photos (國花2010). These buses have 42 seats and we are going to have 32 and 31 passengers on each bus respectively. Please check the attached Excel file (Taiwan Booking Sept. 24, 2010) for your preliminary Bus assignments. If you would like to ride the other bus, please let Max know in advance so adjustment can be made. For safety and other reasons, so that we can accurately perform head counts after each and every scenic stop, we would like to request all passengers remain to ride the assigned buses through out the entire 8 days. We do not have a pre-fixed seating arrangement. However, after everyone finds their seats the first day, they should rotate on subsequent days according to a pattern to be announced on the second day. The Bus has a WC for emergency use. We try to make rest room stops every two hours, or when necessary. 3 Luggage: a. After passengers arrive at Tao Yuen airport, we will distribute color ribbons to passenger to tie on their luggage before loading them to the buses. b. Bus A uses Red ribbons, Bus B uses Blue ribbons (not the First and Second buses described in Point #4 for the first day travel) c. Each morning at 7am, place luggage outside the room doors. Bell Boy will collect them and line them up in the lobby, separated by Red and Blue groups. d. Before boarding Buses, you must check if your luggage is in the lobby. If not there, notify John or Max immediately. e. At 7:55am, Bell Boy will load the luggage to the respective buses. John and Max will take care of the tips by using the Rebate. f. At the end of the day, you will follow the Tour Guide on your bus to the Hotel Lobby. Wait for him to distribute room keys. g. Bell Boy will unload the luggage from the bus to the Lobby and separate them in Red and Blue groups. h. You will be given tags (NOTE 1) to mark your room number on them. i. If you want to bring your luggage to your room yourselves, go ahead to do it. Otherwise, apply the tag on the luggage and the Bell Boy will bring them to your room. Tips are optional. Strongly recommend to give them US$1 per piece of luggage. 4 First Day Itinerary: As you can see from the Excel file, more than half of the passengers will arrive Taipei Airport later than 12 noon. If we wait till the last passenger to clear Immigration and custom before we start the buses, we all will have very late lunches. To be fair to those who follow the original guidelines, we decided to split up the start times of two buses. The First Bus will be lead by John Sun. Judging from the time required to clear custom, his Bus will leave with or without the 11:40 am arrivals. They will follow the original itinerary as planned and have lunch at the first scenic point first. All other left over passengers will be on the Second Bus to be lead by Max Cheung. We will meet up with the First Bus at the first scenic point. After lunch, both buses will catch up with the original itinerary. All passengers will continue to ride on the same respective bus until the end of the day. Handling of the luggage will follow the instruction in previous item, #3. Definition of First and Second Buses applied to the first day only. Bus A and B will start from the second day until the last day. 5. Balance Payments: There are a few passengers who missed the deadline to pay for the balance to Din Yi Travel. Please take care of the matter ASAP before they consider your deposits to be forfeited. NOTE 1: The tag could be a small card with string, or a strip of long paper with adhesive backing. Best Regards, Max |
